How to dress for a climate crisis? Floods, droughts, storms and heat waves are increasing thanks to climate change. Brands operating in unpredictable climates can offer lessons in how to design for extreme weather conditions, with sustainability in mind.

Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent, more intense and happening in places they wouldn’t normally affect – from the unprecedented flooding on the Australian coast to the deadly heat wave in South Asia earlier this year. According to the 2021 State of the global climate report by the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the years 2015 to 2021 were the seven warmest years on record. The town of Lytton in British Columbia reached highs of 49.6°C on June 29, 2021, breaking the previous Canadian national record of 4.6°C. Forest fires broke out the next day. In contrast, Oklahoma City hit -25.6°C and Dallas -18.9°C, their lowest temperatures since 1899 and 1949 respectively on February 16 this year. The WMO forecasts that 2022 will bring above-average rainfall to Southeast Asia and Australasia, and an extreme hurricane season in the Atlantic. And the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says human activity is responsible.

This presents two – often opposing – challenges for performance apparel brands. They must design for the unpredictable and more extreme weather events of tomorrow, without increasing their own environmental impact by relying on synthetic materials and harsh chemicals. There is also an existential question: what are these clothes for? Designing for extreme weather means prioritizing function over form, but consumer behavior suggests both are necessary. The “gorpcore” trend is driving sales of performance apparel (named after the “good old raisins and peanuts” backpackers’ mix, referring to outerwear worn purely for aesthetics). This is even the case in more stable or mild climates, with brands focusing on researching sustainable fabrics and finishes, unlocking sustainability and circularity, and creating multi-functional garments that can be worn every day, but that also adapt to extreme weather conditions, if any.

Material difference

As heavy rains and floods become more frequent, finding long-lasting, high-performance alternatives to traditional waterproofing is a priority. Many brands are phasing out perfluorinated chemicals (PFAS) used for stain and water resistant finishes. Also known as the “eternal chemicals,” PFAS feature prominently in performance apparel, but have drawn criticism for their environmental damage and alleged effects on human health. Scientists are increasingly condemning their use in food packaging, furniture, fashion and beauty.

“PFAS have made waterproof and windproof outdoor gear possible for decades, but when these substances escape into the environment, they don’t break down. We are committed to finding a solution that is both durable and performance by our standards,” says Woody Blackford, Canada Goose’s Chief Product Officer. This solution does not yet exist on a large scale, but the brand is phasing out PFAS in its signature Arctic Tech fabric. Canada Goose is one of the most of 700 companies now using the Bluesign sustainability certification system to find less harmful materials, treatments and suppliers Aims to use 90% Bluesign approved fabrics by 2025. products that work Consumers now demand for brands to do it sustainably,” says Blackford.

One potential solution for waterproofing is durable waterproofing, a chemical treatment that minimizes condensation and maximizes breathability, says 66° North clothing designer Gudbjorg Jakobsdottir, but this requires the customer to reapply it regularly, a big demand. for customers accustomed to low-maintenance garments. Certified outerwear brand B Corp is based in Reykjavík and was originally created to help Icelandic fishermen survive freezing temperatures and heavy rain. It works closely with producers such as Gore-Tex and Polartec to test new materials, and also uses Bluesign certification, but CEO Helgi Oskarsson says its choices are limited without developing its own materials, which it doesn’t have. not the time, resources or technical expertise. TO DO. Bluesign has just launched a Sustainable Chemistry Index with Sustainable Chemistry for the Textile Industry to help brands and manufacturers meet these challenges.

KIM Kardashian turned heads donning a leather jumpsuit as The Sun exclusively captured photos of the model stepping out of her $250,000 Lamborghini Urus.

The reality TV star pulled up in her luxury white vehicle showing off her gorgeous blonde locks through the window.

But it was the outfit Kim wore as she got out of the car that won fans over as the SKIMS founder modeled a skintight ensemble.

The 41-year-old nearly popped out of the low-cut one-piece suit, which had her breasts on full display.

She kept her head down as she walked, sporting a pair of black sunglasses, high heels and a matching black bag.

The outing comes days after Kim shared snaps of her sexy beach getaway with her boyfriend, Pete Davidson, 28.

The Hulu star captioned the instagram snap series: “Beach for 2.”

The lovebirds stood knee-deep in the crystal clear water kissing, his hand around her waist.

In another snap, the two were in the middle of the ocean on a canoe together.

Pete appeared to grab the camera for a shot, with Kim leaning back with her sensational figure on display, as fans saw part of her feet touching his on the boat.

Another photo shows the KUWTK alum standing on the beach throwing peace signs, showing off her slim waist and tiny bikini.

Her long platinum blonde hair reached almost to her waist.

Another photo showed the TV star staring down the beach, adjusting her bikini bottom, trying to avoid a wardrobe malfunction before entering the water.

The Saturday Night Live alum joined her in the water, shirtless with his tattoos showing, wearing a matching black swimsuit and black Prada sunglasses.

ADORING STEPFATHER

Things are definitely serious between the two, as recent photos have shown Pete spending time with Kim’s kids.

Kim is a mom of four with ex-husband Kanye West: North, nine; Holy, seven; Chicago, four; and Islam, three.

The King of Staten Island star was spotted holding hands with his eldest son, Saint, on a trip to The Grove mall in Los Angeles before stopping at a Walmart in Woodland Hills, not far from the mansion Calabasas from Kim.

While Kanye has remained mostly quiet after several outbursts on Instagram amid his ugly divorce battle, a source exclusively told The Sun that it’s quietly raging that Pete is now playing stepdad.

“It’s no surprise that Kanye is upset that Pete is around the kids so much, but he feels helpless as Kim is determined to move on and have him in her life,” they said.

The insider continued, “He’s kept a low profile after his public rants for the sake of the kids and to be civil, but there’s still a lot of tension between him and Kim.

“Right now they’re communicating mostly through lawyers, and Kim has braced herself for more drama, but she’s doing just fine.”

The source added: “She waited until she was really sure about her relationship with Pete before introducing him to the kids, and they love being around him.

“Kim trusts Pete and thinks Kanye needs to come to terms with the fact that they’re both going to move on and the kids will be introduced to new partners.”

YOU RETURN

On Monday, the 45-year-old rapper returned to social media after a long hiatus from his platforms, hours after Kim posted the steamy photos from the beach.

Rapper Donda took instagram to share a blurry photo of a pair of Adidas Yeezy slides priced at “$55.”

Alongside the snap was a long caption, which first mentions late NBA star Kobe Bryant, before taking a 180 and accusing Adidas CEO Kasper Rørsted of selling “fake Yeezys”.

“I can’t stand this blatant copying anymore…” he wrote.

Kanye continued: “It’s for anyone who wants to speak out but feels they can’t lose their contract or be called crazy.

“…These shoes represent the disrespect people in power have for talent. This shoe is a fake Yeezy made by Adidas themselves.”

The hitmaker continued, “I don’t talk to DC about this either…Kasper come talk to me…”

Fans were quick to react to Kanye’s unexpected social media post, writing, “We missed you!”

“He’s back,” added another before a third chimed in, “The real Kanye is back.”

Amid the chaos, Kanye found himself in new relationships: first with actress Julia Fox, then with Chaney Jones.

However, he is now a single man after he and Chaney, 24, separated.

In the quiet corner of a corporate hotel lobby, Dominic Calvert-Lewin lets me experience the very literal agony of his teenage life. “I grew so fast in such a short time that I ended up with a stress fracture in my lower back,” he says, recalling the six months he went from a 5ft 8 compact inches to a long 6 feet and more. ‘I remember being in school and having back pain all the time [from] sitting on the plastic chairs. He leans forward and mimics a geriatric porch. “At 15, I basically felt like an old man.”

There was, thankfully, a gain to go along with the pain. Although he was sidelined from playing in the academy at his boyhood club Sheffield United for a time, it was this physical transformation that transformed him from a goalscoring midfielder into a heeled striker at springy and dominating in the aerial plane. Without the drastic change in stature, there probably wouldn’t have been a move to Everton at the age of 19; no goals on his senior England debut in autumn 2020; no climb to become one of the most talented (and coveted) young centre-forwards in the country.

And now, about a decade later, the 25-year-old has undergone another striking and, in her own way, life-changing makeover. First bursting onto the scene as a fresh-faced, puppy-boy boy in standard turtlenecks and luxe streetwear, Calvert-Lewin has become a game-changing sartorial force in recent years. Posing on Instagram in Tinted american gigolo sunglasses, a blue velvet suit and a Chanel handbag from her private collection; showing up at the Michael Kors show at New York Fashion Week in 2020 sporting another extravagant ’70s open-neck affair; fry the collective mind of the internet with a 2021 Arena Men+ clutch with schoolgirl tube socks, another model’s handbag (pink Prada this time) and flared culottes that many have mistaken for a skirt (we’ll come back to that, of course).

Here, in the face of the macho homogeneity of men’s football and the historic aversion to anything even loosely coded as feminine, was an elite young athlete who spoke fearlessly and challenged gender norms in the process. But while Calvert-Lewin’s fashion choices have been praised for their wider social ramifications, he’s keen to point out that was never his intention. “It’s no secret the kind of clothes I like to wear,” he says, in soft Yorkshire tones. “And I think the most important thing is to stay authentic to yourself. I’m not trying to do this in order to push the boundaries or anything. I’m just trying to be myself and that’s open to interpretation, depending on how people want to take it.

Those of us who took part in today’s shoot – featuring Calvert-Lewin in a variety of looks from the highly anticipated Adidas x Gucci collaboration, bravely clutching sunflowers, lying on drizzly wet grass in a nearby park and joking about the comfort of a pair of flared sweatpants – must see his palpable passion for clothing in action. It’s the day after the final game of the Premier League season and four days after Calvert-Lewin scored the goal that saved Everton from relegation and sparked two separate frenzied pitch invasions at Goodison Park (“It was an outburst of raw emotion,” he says. “And being the man who provided security, well, that’s what I had been visualizing for weeks”). There is noticeable fatigue, and perhaps some stiffness in the way he moves his lean, looming frame.

Even so, when he began to embark on a more considered fashion journey (particularly through his collaboration with Harry Lambert, stylist-provocateur like Josh O’Connor and Harry Styles and star of My London This Week), he works on illustrious collaborations like today’s one he had in mind. “It’s like the perfect marriage,” he says, referring to the association of the Italian fashion house and the German sportswear brand. He’s changed into plainclothes now, a faded blue Adidas cropped tracksuit with ripped off white Noah socks. He describes his style as “a bit retro, a bit retro”, but who inspires him?

“I always say people like Sammy Davis Jr and Jimi Hendrix,” he says, his doe-like hazel eyes peering through his signature spray of bouncy curls. “I feel like, in a way, men were more flamboyant back then. And it’s like we’ve moved backwards in a way. [People] act like it’s alien, but really and truly, it was done long before I wore these costumes. That’s a good point. But where the likes of, say, George Best offset plunging cashmere shirts with a demonstrably old-school attitude toward booze and women, Calvert-Lewin seems comfortable enough in his masculinity to push his boundaries. These world-shaking culottes are a good example. “I thought I had just put on some shorts,” he laughs. ‘So when the cover came out and it looked like a skirt, I didn’t even know what [had happened]. The irony was that it wasn’t a skirt. But even if it had been, if I had seen a skirt and put it on, that’s what it is.

There was, he concedes, some inevitable negativity on social media. But what he wasn’t prepared for was the upside; the dozens of parents thanking him “for being a positive role model just by being myself.” “It never occurred to me that I could positively influence people,” he adds. “It was far beyond any type of trolling I had.” He is full of praise for Jake Daniels, the 17-year-old Blackpool striker who last month became the first openly gay professional footballer of a generation. “Credit to the boy,” he said. “It took such bravery, even at such a young age, to tell the world who he is. Maybe in his self-confidence, it could inspire other people to do it. It shouldn’t be much when you look at the world we live in now, but football is weird.

Or maybe you could say football isn’t weird or inclusive enough. Calvert-Lewin — aside from naturally craving a vacation after an injury-ravaged and emotionally draining season he describes as “the most difficult time of my career” — is about to change that. He knows better than anyone, after those shackled days in the classroom, that change is not something to be feared.

While Nike may push circular design with collections like Space Hippie and Next Nature, few of their releases embody the principle quite like adidas’ “Made To Be Remade” series, whose offerings can be flipped and then completely redone. Even shoes designed for the outdoors are no exception, as this TERREX Free Hiker – which is the first TERREX shoe in the collection – more than proves it.

Compared to previous iterations of the Free Hiker, this pair offers a much simpler and more streamlined construction. The upper, which is made of a TPU knit, however uses the original model as a base, as the weave traces its various contours in “Core Black”. Adjacent laces, stays, heel tabs, etc. also incorporate said neutral, directly contrasting the white “TERREX” branding and full BOOST sole unit.

John Madden hated stealing and wasting his potential.

The player, analyst, coach, broadcaster and showman continually redefined the way football was viewed and discussed until his passing in December 2021. From coaching the Oakland Raiders to a Super Bowl championship in 1976 to providing commentary and analysis for thousands of matches over three decades, Madden has brought a new level of technical know-how to the pigskin experience. Although he retired in 2009, he has remained in tune with the times thanks in part to the video game franchise that bears his name.

Decades after the first-ever game launched on the Apple II, EA Sports senior producer Michael Maher says Madden’s example continues to be a guide for development teams.

“If you’ve ever seen him coach, or if you’ve ever heard of him, he’s one of a kind,” Maher said. Reverse. “He’s an inspiration to us of what good looks like.”

Since 1988, the Madden video game series has released 41 editions and sold more than 130 million copies. It has evolved from simple pixel art to a remarkably complex simulator that constantly redefines the cutting edge of video game visuals and physics. It’s the de facto game for football fans, attracting many gamers who would never touch a console otherwise. (EA’s partnership with the NFL, which was renewed in 2020, making it the only series capable of including real-world teams and player likenesses.)

It’s hard to imagine the gaming landscape without Madden, but the franchise wouldn’t exist at all without the legendary coach and commentator, whom EA founder Trip Hawkins approached all the way back in 1984 to throw some prestige behind their idea of a football game.

His involvement in the series was more than superficial. Madden commented on playbooks and plays on an annual basis. When Madden couldn’t make it to the EA offices, the developers made a point of coming to visit him once a year. His uncanny eye for breaking down 11v11 football into plays, calls, and logical conclusions added a sense of realism that contributed to the series’ success.

For the first time in two decades, Coach Madden is on the cover of the game, in three different variations. In the late ’80s and early ’90s, he featured prominently on the title screen and as an announcer, but he didn’t appear much in the show’s later episodes. He made an appearance in Crazy 22 as a coach released for free to players but has not been a title announcer since Crazy 09.

A brand new mode for this year also sees dueling Maddens controlling star players as they face off in a 1970s Oakland Coliseum. While EA has yet to reveal much about this mode, players can expect to see a fully realized and rendered Madden in his training prime.

“How we were going to honor him was in the works long before he passed,” Maher said. “We continue to work closely with his family to ensure that we continue to infuse our game with his passion and vision for the sport.”

“He still has occupies an important place on everything we do daily and annually.

To create as realistic an in-game model as possible to pay homage to their reigning patriarch, the developers tracked down authentic 70s clothing, including Adidas belts and shoes he wore on the pitch. They even managed to get their hands on his Super Bowl Ring. Using advanced 3D technology, which involved placing small dots on items and waving a wand-like device around them, the developers were able to recreate an impeccably accurate rendition of her former wardrobe. To recreate his physical likeness, Madden’s team merged a scan of him from a previous iteration of the game with his bust from the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

“We have a team of world-class artists here who will go into every pixel, to push and adjust every wrinkle, every pore, every geometry,” Maher said. “Then we actually talk to his family. We don’t stop until we’re all happy to have succeeded.

Advances in digital imaging have made it easier than ever to include realistic renderings of deceased celebrities in the media. Sometimes it’s effective, like Paul Walker’s posthumous cameo in Fast and Furious 7. Other times it can be shocking and offensive, such as Peter Cushing’s digital recreation of Grand Moff Tarkin in A thug.

To avoid any misunderstanding, Maher says the inclusion of Madden’s likeness in the series will have to “match what he is.”

“When you see this happening in other forms when it’s done right, people jump out of their seats.” Maher said. “When it’s not, it can go south quite quickly.”

Madden already has a precedent of including deceased players in their game, who can no longer share their likeness input. In the Madden Ultimate Team online multiplayer mode, players can use retired or deceased players, known as Legends, on their roster.

Once the developers figure out how best to honor a deceased or retired player – and what that player’s fans would actually appreciate – EA reaches out to families, foundations, or trusts and explains their plans for the likeness of the player.

“That’s why if we do this in the future – probably more when that if – it will be selective. And we’ll just make sure we get it right,” Maher says.

The passing of Coach Madden was a deeply felt loss to football. Decades after first stepping onto the court, his legacy has not been tarnished by scandal or controversy. Crazy 23 hopes to honor that legacy and the great coach the world has come to know.

“Although time flies and it almost belongs to a bygone era, it still looms large in everything we do daily and yearly on our game,” Maher said.

Designer Sean Wotherspoon’s streetwear-inspired take on the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo features corduroy upholstery and pastel-hued Harlequin paint.

Porsche’s tallest electric wagon, the Porsche Taycan Cross Touringreceived a Harlequin-inspired makeover, courtesy of American designer Sean Wotherspoon.

Known for his colorful clothes and artistic creations, Virginia-born Wotherspoon has 1.1 million followers on Instagram and a number of high profile brand collaborations with Adidas and Vespa.

The 32-year-old is the proud owner of a 1996 Volkswagen Golf Harlequin – one of 264 produced for the US market – so for his latest collab, Wotherspoon has customized his personal Taycan 4 Cross Turismo to look like his other Pride and Joy.

The Golf Harlequin was an American market sequel to the 1995 European VW Polo Harlequin, which created a unique look by mixing and matching the colors of the car’s exterior panels.

While only 264 Golf Harlequins were built for the United States, demand for the smaller 1995 Polo Harlequin in Europe was so high that Volkswagen had to increase production from 1000 to 3800 examples.

Like the Harlequin Golf, Wotherspoon’s Taycan exterior features four distinct (and unique) paint colors, all named after members of its family: Nash Blue, Sean Peach, Loretta Purple and Ashley Green.

Through Porsche’s Paint to Sample Plus customization program, future Taycan buyers will be able to select Wotherspoon’s custom paint colors for their own cars, but only one per car.

The one-of-a-kind Taycan also boasts an interior accented in cork and corduroy, with Wotherspoon, a vegan, keen to ensure the car was leather-free (an option also available to normal Taycan buyers).

It’s not the first time that corduroy has graced the interior of a Porsche, with the first use of the fabric dating back to the 1952 Porsche 356.

The design process involved stripping and rewiring the car, with the Porsche design team painting a perfect circle down the side of the Taycan’s exterior in a nod to the racing history of the mark – symbolic of a starting number cockade.

“The circle represents Porsche racing history dating back to the 1950s Le Mans car and so many other icons to follow. The hand-painted artistry and time it takes to achieve the perfect circle on these cars is pretty amazing, especially when it comes to curves like the Taycan,” Wotherspoon wrote of his creation.

“Our teams have worked extremely hard around the clock at all levels with the energy and excitement of working together on such a unique project and I think the circle also represents that journey and the end product that we have made.”

Wotherspoon’s Taycan is the latest in a series of artistic interpretations of Porsche’s very first electric model – an early 2021 Taycan designed by an American artist Richard Phillips sold for $200,000 at auction.

Selecting an individual paint shade for the Taycan wagon, through the brand’s Paint to Sample Plus service, adds $42,230 to the purchase price and at least three months to the delivery time.

Madonna fans got mixed reactions when she promoted her upcoming single with a bizarre close-up video of herself.

The 63-year-old pop icon celebrates more than four decades in the music industry and last month became the first and only artist to top the Dance Club Songs – Billboard charts 50 times.

To celebrate this feat, she is releasing two collections: a 50-track compilation of her favorite remixes of the most popular hits and another 16-track version.

The latest single sees a remix to Deeper and Deeper from 1992, which is out now.

She posted an eight-second video to her social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter and TikTok, on Tuesday evening (May 31).

Madonna started the video looking at the camera

During the video, Madonna wore a black Balenciaga jacket, a pair of pastel pink sunglasses, her hoop earrings and a number of necklaces – the same outfit she wore while watching the WBA lightweight world championship. at the Barclays Center in Brookyln for Gervonta Davis vs Rolando Romero last Saturday with his son David Banda.

As the remix sample plays in the background, she appears to take a selfie before slowly zooming in on her face before moving closer to the lens of her sunglasses.

The caption next to the video read, “I always want to go deeper and deeper…………….” followed by five purple love heart emojis.

The majority of his fans reacted positively to the posts, with Brazilian artist Johnny Hooker saying, “This remix is so amazing,” followed by four fire emojis.

On Instagram, one person commented, “Deeper and deeper into botox,” along with a laughing face emoji.

Another wrote: “About as much intellect as Lady Garbage. With stans like you, no wonder her career is trash.”

However, on TikTok, the comments were less kind with concerns over his erratic behavior.

One user said: ‘I used to be a fan, not so much anymore’, while a second person added: ‘I’m worried about his well-being.’

Meanwhile, her recent racy snaps have her banned from going live on Instagram after she continually broke the app’s rules with her nude posts last week.

She shared a video reacting to the decision, saying, “I’ve never worn so many clothes in my life.”

She captioned the clip: ”Not us!!!! violation of community guidelines……….”

Madonna was puzzled as to why her posts were deleted, but she admitted it could be a delay in previous NFT videos.

The mother-of-six has teamed up with digital artist, graphic designer and animator Beeple to make the three NFT videos – also known as non-fungible tokens – which aren’t for the faint-hearted.

Among the more graphic aspects of the clips are close-ups of her private parts, which were created using scans of the singer.

There is no sign of the videos on her Instagram, but she has yet to clarify whether these are the videos that were deleted by herself or the social media platform.
